Fiscal Sponsorship

Breadcrumb

  • Home

As a service to the film community and the visual and performing arts, Stage And Screen Innovations will begin providing intermediary services as a fiscal sponsor for qualifying film and performing arts projects, in 2025.

Using a fiscal sponsorship arrangement offers a way for a film or theater project to attract donors even when it is not yet recognized as tax-exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3). In essence the fiscal sponsor serves as the administrative "home" of the cause. Charitable contributions are given to the fiscal sponsor, which then grants them to support the cause.

A fiscal sponsor is a 501(c)(3) organization, whose participation permits you to offer a tax deduction for donations to your specific project. SSI's participation in this way will make it much easier for a given project to raise necessary funding to complete their student, art or festival project.

A fiscal sponsor is a nonprofit organization that provides fiduciary oversight, financial management, and other administrative
services to help build the capacity of charitable projects. Using a fiscal sponsor satisfies IRS requirements as long as the fiscal sponsor maintains the right to decide, at its own discretion, how it will use contributions. Maintaining control over the donated funds is a requirement of a legitimate fiscal sponsor arrangement.

The role of the fiscal sponsor can include performing many different administrative functions on behalf of the sponsored organization or program, including taking on the responsibility of receiving and administering charitable contributions on behalf
of the sponsored organization. Some fiscal sponsors do a lot more, such as performing back-office functions.
It is quite common and perfectly acceptable for the fiscal sponsor to charge an administrative fee for its services, which is usually a percentage of the budget of the sponsored organization or program.

General Project requirements to qualify for fiscal sponsorship with SSI, and the costs involved, are discussed with you upon request through the contact form on this website.
