Upon satisfying the Basic Rotation, the PUNC participant will choose to follow either a PRODUCERS PATH or DIRECTORS PATH. These paths have the same basic curriculum but different emphasis and practical assignments.
PRODUCERS PATH: Having completed the Basic Rotation, the aspiring producer will be placed either as an Assistant Production Coordinator (APOC) or as a Production Coordinator (POC) on a professional production, for a total of at least 30 days.
After satisfactory assignment as either APOC or POC, the participant will complete seminars and workshops on specific producing functions (see below for details).
Upon completing the seminars and workshops, the participant will rotate through the following roles, on separate productions: Unit Production Manager (assistant) or Associate Producer.
The participant will also have sessions shadowing the Director on set and in rehearsals with talent and camera, and observing the Associate Director on a production.
DIRECTORS PATH: Having completed the Basic Rotation, the aspiring Director or Associate Director will attend seminars and workshops imparting practical knowledge on real-world directing (see below for details). Insofar as the Director’s function interacts with and affects producing, these will include many producing matters.
The participant will then rotate through at least four creative and technical departments from among the following departments: camera department, hair and makeup, art department, script supervision, visual or special effects, wardrobe, props., or sound. In these departments, they will operate as an assistant to the key (ie. Assistant Art Director, Assistant HMU, Assistant SFX Coordinator). Each departmental rotation will be for a minimum of 5 production days, totaling a minimum of 20 days. Each department key will provide feedback and assessment at the end of the rotation.
Upon completion of this assignment, the aspiring Director will be placed as a Second Assistant Director on a professional production for at least 20 days.
The aspiring Director will then be placed as an Assistant Associate Director on a live-stream production (likely a Virtual Theatrical production). During this time, the participant will be responsible for live switching and live editing part of the live stream.
Next, the aspiring Director will shadow a Director on an outside production or Virtual Theatrical production, and will act as a Second Unit Director during this rotation, on several sequences.
